Box Five Radio | Special Guest Biography

Beat Hussy is a Seattle area DJ that started out with a residency playing gothic/industrial CDs for a local fetish night in 1999 before making the jump to house, new school breaks and housey vocalled drum and bass on a pair of 1200s she bought herself for her 33rd birthday. Once she figured out how to beat match, she began playing out in January of 2007, primarily at house parties and Burning Man related events and fundraisers. In July 2014, she returned from a 6 year breeding and schooling hiatus to play a vinyl set at A Family Affair in Portland. A few days later, in August, she made the jump to digital at the Northwest House Music Conference to fill some open slots, earning the nickname “Slot Snatcher”. This was done renegade style, on a thumb drive she bought on the way to the venue filled with whatever she happened to have on her laptop once she got there.  This was followed by her CD debut on a truck driving around Seattle Hempfest and an online streaming debut on Sugar Shack Radio where she continues to snatch an open slot whenever she can.

This month, she’s started a weekly show called “Shackin’ Up with Beat Hussy” which airs on Sugar Shack Radio on Tuesdays from 9 – 11pm Pacific/11p – 1a Central. What happens next is anyone’s guess, she’s just happy to be playing music again and extremely grateful for the support and encouragement she has received along the way from friends, family, dancers, music lovers and especially the DJs and producers she looks up to.  If you want to stay up to date on her adventures, she can be found online in all the usual places: Facebook, Twitter, Soundcloud, Mixcloud, Mixcrate and her own site,  In real life, you will probably find her playing with her kids, practicing or on a dance floor somewhere.
